Webber makes it a stunning six from six for Red Bull in Monaco

Mark Webber stormed to pole position in Monaco, pipping a sensational Robert Kubica with a 1m 13.826s lap.

It ensured Red Bull continued its unbroken run of pole positions in 2010 and Webber has now got to be the favourite for tomorrow’s race if he can keep it out of the barriers.

But it was Kubica who stood out, leading a frantic Q3 by a huge margin part way through the session. The Renault is far from the quickest car but the Pole threw it between the barriers to tremendous effect.

McLaren had a disappointing day, with Jenson Button looking out of sorts. Lewis Hamilton is well placed to take advantage of mistakes ahead of him. There is the chance of rain so anything could happen.

Fernando Alonso’s weekend was ruined by a heavy accident in final practice. He damaged the chassi and Ferrari have essentially had to build him a new car. Felipe Massa is at risk for a penalty for blocking Button.

The much anticipated chaos in the session never really materialised. A couple of the drivers had traffic issues, Kubica especially in Q1, but no worse than normal here and the new teams all went out.

Lotus especially will be disappointed not to have made Q2.

I’m picking Webber for the win, with Kubica and Hamilton also on the podium.
