Mark Webber crashed into the back of Heikki Kovaleinen’s Lotus, after the Australian apparently missed his breaking point, firing his Red Bull up into the air, landing upside down before spinning into the barriers.

Fortunately both drivers walked away from the accident while the safety car disrupted much of the field.

And while the chequered flag has fallen, the places behind Lewis Hamilton in second could change significantly following the crash. The stewards are investigating nine cars for breaking the safety car lap time as they raced to the pits. All, including Jenson Button, could be punished by as much as 30 seconds.

Vettel will be uneffected after an afternoon of complete control, leading from lights to flag. He said his campaign was back on track after crossing the line and he may be right.

The brightest racing came from Kamui Kobayashi in the final two laps, passing both Alonso and then Buemi on the final corner. It’s great to see the young Japanese getting the chance to show what he’s got after his sensational cameo in late 2009.

The championship remains delicately poised as we head to Silverstone and the second half of the season.
