McLaren take diffuser blow ahead of British Grand Prix

McLaren has abandoned its blown diffuser set up for the rest of the British Grand Prix weekend, Autosport is reporting.

Jenson Button has tested the McLaren blown diffuser to limited success today. Credit:

Aside from being a long night for the mechanics – this will require huge changes to the rear of the car and possibly the floor – it’s a very bad sign for the prospects of the British squad this weekend.

The Red Bull has been comfortably fastest during qualifying all season and there is nothing to suggest that will be different tomorrow. The McLarens may well be close or on the pace on Sunday but if they can’t control the race there is little to be done. Red Bull were always going to be mighty on a fast track like Silverstone and McLaren’s challenge is faltering before it’s begun, sadly.

My pick for pole and the win remains Sebastian Vettel, despite Mark Webber topping the time sheets in FP2.
